In July 1999, the project's founder started a small website on Hometown AOL.com that included a few personal stories about overcoming a problem with alcoholism through recovery support groups, sexuality, intimate relationships with the opposite sex, a past homosexual sex experience, and a biography-style story about masturbation.
By the end of 1999, the site became popular and was listed in a few major search engines. AOL requested that the site be shut down because the sex and masturbation references were not suitable to their portal. At that time, the Hometown AOL.com domain was one of the few places where where children could create their own websites, so we agreed with AOL and removed the content.
During 2000, the project moved to various other free webspace providers including Yahoo/Geocities, Xoom, Tripod, and Anglefire. Some of those providers asked us to remove the content because the site was getting too much traffic. Other free providers had technical problems with their file uploading systems.
By the summer of 2001, it was clear that free webspace hosting was no longer possible. We bought the domain name called "Raw-Psych.com" (no longer active). By switching to paid hosting and a unique domain, it became possible to add interactive areas to the bottoms of the pages so the public could contribute their own stories. Many emails of thanks came into the email box for the site. People overwhelmingly said they felt a therapeutic result from writing about the history of their personal and private sexual lives in a way that did not require them to reveal their name or email address.
In 2002, Raw-Psych.com was disabled because the hyphen in the domain name caused some problems. We also wanted to experiment with story boards and editorials on other topics besides sexually related issues. Confide2.com was launched, which included topics on substance abuse, fear, phobia, suicidal thoughts, abuse victimizers reform, and of course sexuality. Unfortunately, due to the confusing structure of the site, there were men writing in sections designated for women, women wondering why there were no other women in the sections dedicated to men, and sex experience stories on the suicide issues page.
| By early 2003, it was no longer the founder of the project that was making all decisions and creating pages for the site. Several other serious contributors wanted more topics in an already messed up "2confide.com" domain. Therefore, Contributors and editor assistants decided to concentrate only on sexuality. Male101.com was launched as the premier site for editorials, articles, experiences, and surveys on male sex, male sexuality, masturbation, and other concerns for men. A free Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs of Life) forum was opened and was immediately very popular. The archives of the forum still exist, but the area to ask new questions was taken down because after answering almost 700 questions from the public over a two year period, 99% of the new questions were repeats. | Women expressed an interest in helping open a Female101.com domain as soon as Male101 was opened. The Female101.com was also launched in 2003, and the domain is still operational to this day, although it seems to be less popular than the Male101 domain. Female 101 - AboutUs Domain Information. |
In March 2004, it was decided to allow commercial advertising on most of the pages on the sites in order to pay for the costs of hosting, registration, and basic maintenance. Donations were not enough to keep the project going, and the project was growing fast. Strict limitations were placed on the types of ads that would be allowed, and extremely strict limitations were placed on the types of businesses allowed to advertise.
SexEditorials.com was launched in August 2004 in an attempt to create a more serious academic atmosphere for opinions and editorials on sex. Sex Editorials - AboutUs Domain Information.
| Ejacu.com was also launched in August 2004 in attempt to create a documentary on "the penis" because so many men had the misconception that their penis was smaller than all other men due to intense advertising from companies that were attempting to profit from scams that capitalize on a very common insecurity that most men have at some point in their life. | AdvancedMasturbation.com was launched in November 2004 in an attempt to illustrate male masturbation methods without porn or the other types of sex usually featured on pay-membership pornographic websites. The effort to exclude the pornographic context of instructional masturbation techniques is further explained on the site. | ExhibitionistPost.com was opened in early 2005 to serve as a study of legal and non-pathological exhibitionism as it relates to sex and sexual fantasy. The domain serves mainly as a data collection port and perspective archive. Exhibitionist Post - AboutUs Domain Information. |
IncestIssues.com was launched in October 2005 but was removed from the project in August 2006 due to rampant violations of the website's guidelines by contributors. The domain may remain active until it expires or is sold, but it no longer accepts contributions or runs ads.
2006 also opened the door to the SecretPenis.com website, which consists of a number of topics related to the penis and insecurities that often surround men regarding their sex organ.
1001vaginas.com is a vagina documentary that was opened in 2006 as a sister site of Ejacu.com. It offers evidence for all the different varieties of vaginas as well as a survey for readers. 1001 Vaginas - AboutUs Domain Information.
